WRT Board listens to citizens, again
It was a standing room only crowd 10-minutes before the scheduled start of the meeting. With all due respect to those who attended the first meeting, where was everyone when the Reorganization Committee was forming the plan and requesting input? Where was everyone when there was a real chance to make an impact? Why have so many chosen to remain silent for so long? The room was filled to capacity, with additional chairs being setup twice and people slipping in the back door. The crowd was counted at 157 attending; slightly exceeding the posted capacity of 150. The event? The second public hearing of the White River Township Board concerning the proposal to merge Greenwood and the unincorporated areas of White River Township. The earlier meeting was declared invalid because, even though about 300 people were aware enough to attend, it was not properly announced with a paid notice in local papers. When I started teaching in Center Grove in 1995, I was not ready for how much positive talk there would be about the schools, by those who lived here and throughout the rest of
State budget shortfalls could force real change…for the better!
Editors Note: Although we have focused on the reorganization and annexation issues in Center Grove there are other important issues facing our residents. In addition to the reorganization plan voters are likely to find other issues on the May ballot, funding a new 500+ bed county jail and an issue to increase taxes to cover a “short fall” in the Center Grove school budget. The following article is an editorial provided by a Center Grove resident who has been following the school funding issue. We welcome comments to this article and also invite anyone who cares to comment on issue facing Center Grove/White River Township residents to send us your thoughts. We will be glad to post them. Update: While the details and total scope are unclear, initial proposals presented late Thursday call for slashing the choral music program and the elimination of the director who has lead multiple choirs to championships, including the 50-year-old
