WRT Board declines to participate in Bargersville merger proposal
“In the manner proposed”
The White River Township Board said “no thanks” to the merger proposal put forth by Bargersville. They found it too limited in scope and believed it placed too many constraints on the outcome of the study committee. In addition, they expressed concern that if areas were allowed to “opt-out” at their discretion, it could result in a “Balkanization” of the township said board member Joe Acker. (Opting-out should not be confused, providing for various tax districts or allowing agricultural use of land within the merged area.)
About two-dozen citizens attended the meeting, most expressing an opinion were concerned that tonight’s vote leaves the township with only one option: working with Greenwood. In response to the strong public comment, the Board the board passed a resolution to send a cover letter expressing the willingness to consider another, more open and expansive proposal from Bargersville.
