Reader responds to Mr. Messick’s letter
A White River citizen provides his views on a few topics
We always encourage our readers to comment on anything we post on this site. But, some choose to respond by e-mail. If they provide permission, we publish those e-mails. Recently, Mr. Ed Woods submitted the following reply to the letter from White River Township board chair Mark Messick.
Mr. Messick’s letter in Views, printed January 3-4 was confusing. We’ve attended 4 WRT board meetings this past summer and fall. The only obvious feeling we have from those meetings is:
a) a lack of constructive communications between the Board and the Trustee. There appears to be at least 2 agendas always present, and maybe more. The WRT Trustee is all for merger or incorporation with Bargersville and only Bargersville. From the boards point of view, there’s a feeling that 2 of the 3 members have the hots for Greenwood, the 3rd member, who knows. The clue that all was not love and roses in WRT was when the Trustee appeared with His legal council and the Board courting a different firm. It appears the board now has council.
b) Doesn’t the Trustee and Board ever get together prior to an open township meeting to figure out how and what they want to talk about to the residents. There seems to be an agenda, but it seems to be built by the Board. Never in the 4 meetings we attended have we ever been given any handout material. The was a survey at one meeting, you could fill out, if interested. So much for public opinion.
If Bargersville and Greenwood are both in the process of going through an internal reorganization, then why should the residents of WRT, who are interested in a merger or self-incorporation, be bothered with that activity? Likewise why the Trustee and Board? You begin to feel like the wagon and the horse are hooked up wrong. For either Greenwood or Bargersville to consider a merger with WRT will be bad news for the WRT residents, when the cost of doing business is finally talked about. You think Center Grove is a problem, look again. Simply from the standpoint of public safety, considering police protection and roads, both suitors are many dollars short. What no one talks about is the fact that WRT holds all the trump cards.
Maybe it’s time to thank both Bargersville and Greenwood for their interest and let WRT incorporate. Or maybe start a conversation with Perry township. That point has never been cleared up.
Lastly Mr. Messick opened his letter stating that the remarks are his alone. But we got confused again, the letter is signed by Mr. Messick, White River Township Board. What now a one person board?
