Read the articles, don’t ‘read-into’ the articles

We really appreciate your readership, but please don’t jump to conclusions

Yesterday we posted the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting of White River Citizens United (WRCU). Concerning one of the agenda items we said:

John Griffin and Forrest Mellot will report on the activities of the Greenwood/WRT Reorganization committee. Both Mr. Griffin and Mr. Mellot were recently requested to assist the committee on meeting their goals in a timely manner. John Griffin has often provided WRCU with budget analysis of White River Township and other governmental organizations. Forrest Mellot has significant experience in project management and has provided the reorganization committee with a timeline of activities that will allow them to meet the statutory requirements of the reorganization process.

Based on that statement members of the reorganization committee have received e-mails essentially accusing them of “turning the process over to WRCU.” Go back, read it again. Does it say anything about these two gentlemen being in decision making positions concerning the reorganization? No. It says their role is to support the committee members. Beyond that, they are not allowed to reveal anything they may know that is not public information. Having know both of them for some time, my association with Mr. Mellot goes back over 20 years, neither are going to damage their character by releasing information that is not public. But, because they, like many of you, are interested in the future of White River Township and are following the reorganization process closely, they can bring the group up to date on what has taken place. Add to this that any individual can attend the WRCU meeting and for $10 join the group, there is no “secret agenda” behind the actions of WRCU, these men nor the members of the reorganization committee.

This was all made very clear when their roles where first announced, during the meeting where the leadership of the sub-committees where named. We covered it here, and Chair Pat Sherman emphasized in that meeting, when asked, that they were not selected because of their prior association with any group, but because of their impressive resumes in the area project management and guiding processes. He also made it clear they would not be in any decision making role.

So, in conclusion, please continue to read this web site. But if you see something that concerns you, that upsets you, that enrages you, post a comment. This will allow others who may share your concern to see the responses to your post. When you choose to complain privately you are not moving the conversation forward and you may be leaving others with the same misunderstanding, something this site is expressly designed to avoid.
