Innovative ways to provide city services at lower cost gets national attention

If you have been following this Blog long, you know one of our biases is towards providing needed government services at the lowest possible cost. Many communities have found this is possible through a concept call Public/Private Partnerships.

Recently Fox News featured how a company called CH2M HILL is providing services for Sandy Springs, Ga., highlighting the economic benefits to cities. Here’s the article, complete with video: Government Inc.: Cities go private.

This model is beneficial regardless of the outcome of our current discussions. I would encourage the reorganization study committees to investigate these options for providing services to the “new areas.” Already the decision has been made to have more than one district, with different levels of service and taxes. Why not use this model to provide the new services to any area that was once unincorporated White River Township? There is no requirement, that I am aware of, that requires services to be provided in the same way in “old Greenwood” and the proposed “new Greenwood.” Likewise, those interested in self-incorporation should be looking very seriously at this approach to ensure that the services desired by WRT are provided in the most cost effective manner.
