A divided WRT in the works? Mayor responds
UPDATED: April 3, 4:19 am – We contacted Greenwood Mayor Charles Henderson concerning our earlier report. His honor provided the following answers to our questions. The questions and answers are unedited:
Question 1: What do you hope to gain by meeting with Commissioner Kite and discussing a division of the township?
I have not met with Tom Kite or any other County Commissioner or councilor about White River Township Reorganization.
Question 2: Correct me if I am wrong but I believe that John Price is the County Commissioner for the northern third of the county, why meet with Tom Kite instead of the commissioner representing the area in question?

Question 3: As of this morning we have not heard of any attempt by anyone to contact the Bargersville Town Council concerning this matter. Do you have plans to personally reach out to the town council or have someone contact them on your behalf?
I had lunch with my wife in McDonalds on US 31 south one day this week and Tom Kite stopped by our table to say hello. We did not talk about W.R.T., only personal things. Steve Welch came in and stopped by our table on his way out and told me that we needed to talk. I said OK, give me a call. He left. That is all that took place!
Please add any other comments you care to make.
I have had no contact with any of the alleged people concerning the WRT reorganization.
## End of Update##
UPDATED: April 1, 8:54 pm- Greenwood Mayor Charles Henderson has reportedly met with Johnson County Commissioner Tom Kite to talk about creating a dividing line in White River Township, one side for Bargersville, the other to be included in the reorganization plan. Such a compromise would allow Bargersville to annex a portion of the township without the threat of legal action by Greenwood. Study Committee Chair Pat Sherman says he is “not aware of any meeting between the Mayor and Commissioner Tom Kite.“
The action to create a dividing line would have to involve a reorganization effort including Bargersville, unincorporated White River Township and Greenwood. Although many citizens suggested such an effort it was killed when the WRT Board chose to accept Greenwood’s reorganization study offer and rejected Bargersville’s proposal. The board did send a letter with the rejected offer suggesting Bargersville revise its proposal however no action was taken by the Bargersville town council and the reorganization study committee is currently looking at all of unincorporated White River Township joining with Greenwood to create a new “entity” called, Greenwood.

The Mayor’s office recently responded to our questions and indicated there had been some incidental contact between the Mayor, Mr. Kite and others at a local fast food restaurant
