Time to divide WRT?

Should the entire unincorporated area of White River Township become part of the “new Greenwood”?  That is the only option under consideration by the reorganization effort. White River Township residents deserve more.

I was born and raised in a small town, moved to Indianapolis 25 years ago and White River Township 17 years ago. I choose it as home because it offered the quality of life my family was seeking. Last week at a meeting of the Bargersville town council I heard lifetime residents of the rural areas of our township state heartfelt concerns about their future. It struck home, not only because of my life in rural Minnesota but my belief in property rights and individualism. If those residents want to remain free of a city or town government why shouldn’t they? Why should a reorganization effort established by the state of Indiana to reduce layers of government be used to take control of residents who simply want to maintain the status quo?

It is time for the Greenwood Common Council, the White River Township Board, and the Bargersville Common Council to sit down and work out a plan that treats residents (yes even those who think there should be a town of Center Grove) as individuals not residents of some governmental unit established in the 1800′s.
