Bargersville moves ahead with SR 144 annexation plans: Video

by: Jody Veldkamp Thursday, April 30th, 2009

In a move sure to upset the efforts of the White River Township/Greenwood Reorganization Committee, the town of Bargersville voted Thursday night to proceed with the annexation of land along State Road 144 (LINK: story about meeting) in the southwest portion of White River Township (view map here). This largely rural area is also being looked at to be part of the reorganization effort of Greenwood and White River Township. Although the reorganization committee  has been charged to include this area in their plans Bargersville being there “first” may keep that area from being included in the “new Greenwood” should the reorganization effort pass.  Thursday’s actions will almost certainly result in legal action against Bargersville according to Bargersville’s legal council. (Video highlights of the meeting are below)

The timeline for the annexation moves faster than the timeline for reorganization. Bargersville will have the required public hearing on the annexation on July 20, 2009. The have scheduled a final vote on the annexation August 20th. Assuming they gather the required approval of 51% of the parcel owners in the area, it appears that won’t be a problem (view and download petition form here), the residents would become part of Bargersville on January 2, 2010.  The timeline of the reorganization effort is to provide a first draft of plan in September, a final version in December which would then need to be approved by the White River Township Board and Greenwood Common Council, if approved by both bodies the issue would then be on the ballot in May, 2010, some five months after a significant portion of southwest White River Township has become part of Bargersville.

The following video clips provide details about the proposed annexation, how it will affect the area, and why the area appears they would prefer to be part of Bargersville than a reorganized Greenwood.

Jarvis comments on the annexation and reorganization efforts and why Bargersville
