Messick requests reorganization reset

by: Dann Veldkamp Monday, May 4th, 2009

White River Township Board Chair Mark Messick has called a special meeting of the Township Board to consider three proposals: 1) The the reorganization effort between White River Township and Greenwood explicitly exclude that portion of WRT that has asked to be voluntarily annexed to Bargersville. 2) That the Reorganization Committee file an injunction against Greenwood and Bargersville to stop all annexations which are not yet final, this would include those along SR 135 that are currently in litigation. 3) That the entire process return to “square one” and be reformulated to include the town of Bargersville in the discussion. Any new committee may contain some of the same members of as the current committee, but the selection process would start anew.

Mr. Messick said he has not consulted with the other Board members concerning this meeting or the three resolutions, but as Chair has called this special meeting. The trigger, he said, was when he watched the video of the Bargerville Town Council meeting from last Thursday night on centergroveinc.org and heard what was said about the WRT board.

He has talked with members of the County Commission and believes it may be possible that the county could take over responsibility for any areas of the township that may be left unincorporated by these actions. Furthermore, he said the current situation makes it entirely impossible for those studying the reorganization to come back with a reliable proposal when it is not know what areas can and cannot be included in the study and the impact this will have on revenue and cost of services.

The meeting will begin at 4 PM at the White River Trustee Office on Morgantown Road, directly south of Center Grove High School. We will also be streaming the video live on Centergroveinc.org.
