WRT Board acts to change merger effort

by: Jody Veldkamp Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

The White River Township Board met in special session Monday, May 5th, to consider three resolutions. The first asked the current reorganization committee to look at options beyond reorganizing all of unincorporated White River Township, the second asked the reorganization committee to seek a legal injunction against Greenwood and Bargersville to stop all annexation efforts started on or after December 8, 2008  and the third resolution was to form a new reorganization committee to include Bargersville, White River Township, and Greenwood to look at reorganizing the entire area which could result in part of WRT joining Bargersville, another part joining Greenwood and a third part remaining unincorporated. The issue of creating a new town of “Center Grove” even came up at the meeting. The video of the meeting is available in below.

Part One: White River Township Board meeting, May 5, 2009. Board considers three resolutions concerning the ongoing reorganization efforts.

The first is to ask the current committee to examine its options to see if it could look at options other than including all of unincorporated White River Township in the reorganization effort.

Part Two: The discussion of the second resolution, asking the reorganization committee to file for an injunction against Greenwood and Bargersville annexation efforts continues. A southwest White River Township resident states “our message is simple”.

Part Three: Discussion of filing litigation against Greenwood and Bargersville to stop all annexation efforts that began on or after December 8, 2009. Is “the committee going to sue itself” is a question for a citizen who attended.

Part 4: WRT Board Member Joe Acker presents his view on the third resolution that would ask Greenwood, Bargersville and White River Township to enter into a three way reorganization effort. The concept is to find the best solution, for example part of the township could join Bargersville, others join Greenwood, or a portion could remain unincorporated and have services provided by the county or some other arrangement.

Part 5: Closing comments from residents on the third resolution to bring all parties to the table in a new resolutions effort, and the final vote.
