“What if” merger stops before Bargersville annexation goes into effect?
At an April 30, 2009 meeting of the Bargersville Town Council, unincorporated White River Township resident Craig Morris asked “what if” the merger fails to be approved by the Greenwood council and the White River Township board before the voluntary annexation goes into effect on January 2, 2010.
According to Bargersville’s legal council the board can rescind the annexation until it goes into effect. It would be easy to draw the conclusion that the council will be willing to do so. After all this is a voluntary annexation and residents are only agreeing to be annexed by Bargersville to eliminate the chance that they could become part of Greenwood, sort of a “lesser of two evils” scenario. If you watch the video you will note that the town council doesn’t answer the question. Perhaps residents of the proposed voluntary annexation area need to get an answer to that question before a “marriage proposal” becomes a “shotgun wedding”. It will be interesting to see if the topic is raised at Monday’s public hearing. ” You can find meeting details here: Click to visit our events calendar
