Self-incorporation put on back burner
The purpose of Rhoten’s effort was to provide the citizens of White River Township with an alternative to merging with Greenwood or being annexed by Bargersville or Greenwood. Rhoten says he will be following the actions of the Reorganization Committee closely and possibly commenting on their recommendations on his web site.
Rhoten also expects to take small steps in the incorporation process, such as determining the potential town borders and conducting financial analysis on the viability of a Town of Center Grove. By the time of the elections in May, Rhoten expects that awareness will be at it’s peak and should any party turn down the reorganization, he wants to be ready to file for incorporation in as short at time as possible. As he has said many times, he is not opposed to reorganization, but does think it is important to have other options should the merger fail.

This is not really a big surprise. The surprise is that someone actully had the where-with-all to actually move the ball toward incorporation. Evidently all the hullaballoo about the merger committee not “investigating all the options” was just rhetoric, as expected.

Sure, we are all busy, but it would be nice if more took a longer view and became involved. Even making a comment in a blog, as you did, shows an involvement and can impact the future.
