Bargersville “proudly” passes annexation
In a move that came as no surprise, perhaps other than the celebratory mood, the Bargersville Town Council Thursday passed the resolution that will add 13 square miles to the town and take a large chunk out of the potential reorganization area of White River Township and Greenwood. The annexation came about at the request of a large rural area of White River Township that would rather be annexed into Bargersville than take a chance at being “merged” into Greenwood through a reorganization process that allows a plan to be developed by a committee appointed by the White River Township board and the Greenwood local government. The plan would have to be approved by the township board, and the Greenwood council and then by a majority of residents in both areas.
There is the potential of legal action that could stop the annexation but Bargersville’s attorney Nicholas Kile stated that the legal action sought by the reorganization committee to clarify the issue had no chance of stopping the annexation unless the Indiana courts “created new law”. Mr. Kile directly addressed letters from the reorganization chair Pat Sherman in the meeting but said he had no intention of responding in writing. The video of the meeting appears in two parts below.
The third video is a clip of the introduction of the annexation ordinance and it approval by the council. The step is a major move forward for Bargersville and a large section of the township but it may not be the final move.

One Response to “Bargersville “proudly” passes annexation”
Bargersville is the community creating “new law”. The General Assembly set up a process for this between elected government bodies and by engaging in an annexation action Bargersville is trying to single-handedly eviscerate state law that has been set in motion well before any annexation effort was launched.
