As a residents of Almar, we have been interested in buying some of the wooded property adjacent to the football field. We inquired about it almost 15 years ago. At the time it was owned by the school and was not for sale. Is there any chance that a homeowner bordering the property could purchase a couple of acres? Anybody know?

No vote but the ability to spend over $40,000 of taxpayer money on football fields owned by the public that the public cannot use.

That $40,000 would feed a lot of poor people - which is actually one of the things a township trustee is SUPPOSED to do. Along with maintaining cemeteries and helping bury the poor, that is. I don't see "parks" anywhere in the job description of township government.

You can do a lot of all three of those statutory requirements with a million dollars - which is the amount of money that the township trustee and township board are walking away from by not selling the land at value.

Editors note: The township trustee has no vote in township government. Any action taken to purchase or sell land must be approved by a majority vote of the township board.
