Bargersville sends letter to Mayor Henderson

In a written response to Greenwood Mayor Charles Henderson’s request that the two sides in the on-going annexation lawsuit over a portion of land along State Road 135 near Stones Crossing. In the letter (read it here) the council states they have “elected to proceed with the discussions of settling the lawsuit which you filed on Bargersville’s SR135 annexation by communicating with you directly.”

The letter continues with the issue of “choice” of the landowners to decide if they want to be Bargersville or Greenwood. Bargersville maintains they have provided that choice to landowners and deleted parcels of those who chose Greenwood. Yet, the letter maintains, Greenwood is still seeking to annex people who have chosen Bargersville. The letter reads “We cannot simply surrender people who have fairly chosen Bargersville.”

The letter also addresses the “threatened lawsuits against the citizens of White River Township” who asked to be annexed by Bargersville rather than risk becoming part of Greenwood through the current reorganization effort. The town council asks that Greenwood “respect the preferences” of those landowners.

The letter, signed by Bargersville Town Council President Steve Welch, concludes “Mr. Mayor, it is time to end this, and it is entirely within your power to do so.”
