Thought Starter: School spirit signs

by: Jody Veldkamp Monday, September 28th, 2009

The following “thought starter” was received via email. It is posted with permission of the author with our permission to not include their name. We welcome all opinions, be kind, be reasonable and we will extend the same courtesy to anyone with a “thought” worthy of discussion.

If you have occasion to be in the area of CGHS, you cannot help but notice all the signs boosting the athletic teams and various other school organizations. I refer to the signs tacked on the utility posts. This type of enthusiasm is great. (I don’t have a student in the system.) It is worth noting that those signs would not be possible, if Center Grove were part of Greenwood. The Greenwood sign ordinance would not allow them. Sorry school boosters. Another reason not to be an orphan of Greenwood.

One Response to “Thought Starter: School spirit signs”

Dann Said:

At tonight’s meeting a Greenwood Common Council member noted that the signs are already illegal. The utility polls are property of public or private companies and posting the signs has the potential to complicate maintenance, so they are not approved by the owners of the poles and are in fact illegal.

I shared some of my thoughts with the council member, what are your thoughts?
