Reorganization: What will it cost?

by: Jody Veldkamp Thursday, October 15th, 2009

On October 5th we got a first look at expenses of an expanded Greenwood and the tax rates that may be applied as the result of reorganization. On the positive side the overall rate for current residents of Greenwood will decline. Which you would hope would occur since the idea is to spread the costs over a larger population. For current residents of White River Township no matter how you look at it your taxes are going to increase. The question for current unincorporated White River Township residents is do the increased taxes provide additional services worth the cost? You can review the presentation by clicking here.

It should be noted that the current Greenwood rate is well below those of Bargersville, Franklin and other Johnson County communities. The rate is higher than some small towns such as Prince’s Lakes. A comparison of the Greenwood rate with other Johnson County communities is included in the presentation. Yet one more thing to start thinking about. We’d love to hear your thoughts.
