Is the Reorganization Plan DOA?

by: Jody Veldkamp Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Monday’s joint meeting of the council began to fill in the gaps. The most anticipated information was the new tax rates. According to the presentation, the typical resident of the current White River Township area would see an increase in property taxes around 18%. White River Board Chair Mark Messick stated that he “knows they [the residents] are not going to accept a 19% increase.” Messick questioned why the board would vote to approve the Reorganization Plan if that is the projected increase. It is unlikely that any of the revisions to the plan suggested, or even a less conservative estimate of non-property taxes flowing to the new community, could reduce the property tax increase to the 10% level that Mr. Messick believes residents would accept.

Does that mean the Reorganization Plan is dead on arrival? What level of increase are you willing to accept to receive city services? Are you willing to accept a 10% increase if it meant that your home became part of the new city of Center Grove or would you expect it to cost more or less? Tell us what you think.

It’s been bleeding out for months – the fatal wound was the WRT board letting Greenwood drive.

However, the WRT board and trustee have no room to complain about it – they had their chance to influence the outcome and passed. They have failed the citizens of the Township.

Do WRT residents really want to be governed by dishonest, big-government liberals like Brent Corey and Ron Deer? Seriously? The tax increase the first year will pale in comparison to what will come later when you have a council that spends your tax dollars like drunken sailors on liberty at some foreign port. Don’t forget they need a King’s Island-style water park, a Taj Mahal city building and who knows what else. Center Grove will be the ATM or the mugging victim in all this. Big spending liberals like Brent Corey will turn Greenwood into Gary whether or not there’s a merger. If you think you can kick them out, you’re wrong. They’re in office for all the wrong reasons and spend all their time figuring out how they can continue to leech from the taxpayer. You don’t have a hope in Hades.
