Dates to remember

Here are the key dates related to the proposed reorganization of White River Township and Greenwood. Mark them on your calendar. They will be on ours see our calendar here.

• November 19, 5 PM: The merger committee will officially present the plan to the White River Township Board. The meeting will be at the township trustee’s office located at 2929 S. Morgantown Road, just south of the Center Grove High School.

• November 30 6 PM: The first of two public hearings on the proposal. Both he WRT Board and the Greenwood Common Council will be present as well as members of the Reorganization Committee. The public is invited to attend to ask questions and make comments. The meeting will be held at the Community Church of Greenwood, 1477 W. Main St., that’s just east of SR 135 near the Meijer.

• December 5, 2:30 PM: The second public hearing on the proposal. This meeting will also be held at the Community Church of Greenwood.

• December 8: The WRT Board and the Greenwood Council will hold a joint meeting to discuss the proposal. This meeting will be held at the Center Grove Community Schools Administration Building, 4800 W Stone Crossing Road, Greenwood, IN 46143 . The meeting will be in the community room and is scheduled to start at 7pm.

• December 21, 7 PM: The Greenwood Common Council will once again consider the reorganization proposal. The agenda calls for the second and final reading and vote on the proposal. The meeting will be held at the Greenwood City Building, 2 N. Madison Ave., Greenwood. Additional public comments will be welcome at this meeting.

• December 22: The WRT Board will consider the proposal for a second time. As with the Greenwood Council the evening before, a second vote on the proposal is on the agenda, public comments are welcome. If the proposal passes this is the final legislative hurdle before it appears on the ballot on May 4.

• December 31: The reorganization study committee must present the final budget estimate by this date if the new city is to form in 2010.

• May 4: Residents of WRT and Greenwood get the final word on the proposal via the ballot box. The question will appear on the ballot with other items during the scheduled primary election.
