In a meeting that lasted two and half hours Reorganization Committee Chair Pat Sherman covered just about every aspect of the plan to what it doesn’t change, school districts, the right to farm, and utility services, to what will change, tax rates, police protection and more.

We broadcast the entire meeting live, and will have clips of the questions and answers posted to the site starting Tuesday evening. The entire presentation, as well as the information presented on large posters in the lobby area of the Community Church of Greenwood will be available online for you to review tomorrow.

You will find several surprising pieces of information, such as a Center Grove home with an assessed value of about $250,000 will see a tax increase of about $325 a year and a $535,000 home will see a $54 property tax increase?  Why because of Indiana’s property tax law that caps taxes on private homes at 1% of their assessed value. If your home is worth around $125,000 you’ll see about a $110 increase. For a lot of  homeowners the added tax burden can be offset by a decrease in trash pick up fees, really you can’t make stuff like that up.  And what if you live in Greenwood? Most residents will see their taxes decline. We’ll have the exact figures tomorrow.

But that is not even close to the whole story, actually the story presented Monday night looked a lot better than expected. We’ll start digging in to the information as the week moves on, we hope you do the same an post your comments and analysis.
