My 2 cents – Another Opinion – Food for Thought
I’m so sorry for all of the old timers, pioneers, etc. who moved to White River Township to be FREE. I hear you loud and clear. My heart goes out to you. I “feel for you” as some say these days.
You have your water, septic, and trash services handled. You do not need or want any more government or any more taxes.
I just do not think an independent Center Grove Corporation is possible or viable any time soon, besides, it would just be more organized government.
Here are my thoughts on the merger/annexation issue:
Merger/Annexation/Independent/Greenwood/Bargersville
Hi Neighbors -
Most of you are probably way ahead of me on this topic. I have attended three (3) White River Township (WRT) Merger/annexation meetings. It is sad to hear the tales of the “independents” who moved to WRT to be left alone. They are happy as they are. They have water, septic systems, and waste disposal. They do not need, nor want, more government control over their lives. They left “Indy” or other cities for life out in the “country”.
Unfortunately, in my opinion, whether we like it or not, it’s just a matter of time before being an “independent” business, farm, home, etc. owner in WRT will no longer be an option.
I wish that “Center Grove” could be an independent entity with its own identity. I wish that Don of Don’s Garage, Gas, and Grocery (aka Carol’s Corner/Corner Store) at Smokey Row and Morgantown Roads could be the honorary “Mayor” of the Center Grove Community. I think that Don has “passed away” so he would not govern, raise taxes, etc.
When the Center Grove football team won the 5A State Football Championship in 2008, Coach Moore called the team the “Boys from Bargersville”. He did not say the “Boys from Greenwood”. I like Greenwood, but I do not love Greenwood. I really do not want to be governed by them nor pay their taxes.
The independent annexation/merger committee spent 4000 hours studying the annexation/merger idea. They are “gung ho” to implement the takeover by Greenwood of independent folks in WRT. I disagree with them.
In my opinion, after hearing the “pros” and “cons”, independence is not going to be an option for the Center Grove/WRT community.
I prefer to be governed by Bargersville (“Center Grove”) than Greenwood.
If any of you know something that I don’t know about “joining up” with Bargersville, I’d appreciate hearing your thoughts.
Bottom Line: If you prefer Bargersville, sign the Petition for and Consent to Annexation Into the Town of Bargersville and return it to the Town of Bargersville. If you have questions, call Bargersville at 422-5115.
True story: There is a mural on the wall at O’Charley’s at SR 135 and Smith Valley. It depicts a football team. The manager/owner got many comments/complaints because the football jerseys were GREEN! He paid $250 to have them painted RED for Center Grove!
Sorry for the verbal barrage. You decide.
Aren’t we blessed to live in such a beautiful area?
Sincerely,
Your neighbor, Leo J. Meyer
