Marks & Messick to face off for Trustee position

by: Jody Veldkamp Saturday, February 20th, 2010

If you thought the battle between the White River Township Trustee Jay Marks and the township board was interesting the primary battle should be more so. Board member Mark Messick is not seeking re-election to the board but instead is running against Mr. Marks for the trustee position. No other candidate has filed as a Republican and no Democrat filed for the position.

With the deadline to file for White River Township offices set for noon tomorrow, Friday, February 18, we decided to check with the Johnson County Clerk and find out who has filed as of 4pm Thursday. So far only Republicans have filed to be on the ballot. Libertarians, who have automatic ballot access in Indiana, have a longer time to file as candidates since they are classified as a minor party.

As of late Thursday here is the list of those on running for  the White River Township board; incumbents John Ebert and Joe Acker have both filed to run for re-elect. Forrest Chambers, a former board member, and current member of the White River Township-Greenwood Reorganizations committee has also filed.  In addition David Pollard, Margaret “Peggy” Young, and Kenneth Marshall will also be on the ballot in the May primary. The three candidates with the most votes will run in the general election in November.

Although it appears the reorganization plan, should it pass, will not go into effect until January 2012, the Trustee and White River Township Board members elected this November will serve on the “new” Greenwood city council if they meet eligibility requirements such as residency within the new city limits.

One Response to “Marks & Messick to face off for Trustee position”

Brian Said:

You’ve got to be kidding! I’ll give Mr. Messick this much, he is persistent – but for anyone who has paid any attention to this reorganization, it is very apparent that he is pro-Greenwood, just as much as Mr. Marks is pro-Bargersville.

This should certainly make things interesting if they weren’t already…
