Reorg not on May ballot

by: Dann Veldkamp Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Someone missed the deadline and the proposal to merge Greenwood with unincorporated White River Township will not appear on the May ballot. While both the Greenwood Common Council and the White River Township Board have expressed interest in postponing the vote, neither body has taken any official action. County clerk Jill Jackson says only the proposed $23 million expansion of the jail was submitted before the Noon Friday deadline.

It is not clear when or if the proposal will ever be put before the voters. “The talk is” that it will be on the November ballot. But, who knows if anyone will follow through with that date any more than they did with the officially approved date of May. Another proposal, for additional school funding, also is being delay, apparently until sometime this summer.

One Response to “Reorg not on May ballot”

sadim Murphy Said:

Does this effective kill the merger, then? The statute clearly states the merger should be voted via referendum in the next general election. Since both legislative bodies approved it in plenty of time, wouldn’t it have to be approved at the primary election?

Or has private action occurred? What has happened since those votes? Saw something on here about a communication committee and a PAC, but nothing further.

Maybe Pat is busy running Charlie’s congressional campaign?
