Bargersville: A utility company with a town council
According to their website “The Town of Bargersville owns the following utilities: Power & Light, Sanitation, Storm Water, and Water Works.” (view it here). On the “Welcome To Bargersville” sign it says something to the effect of “your low cost utility…”. Bargersville is basically a utility company with a town council. If the community wants to operate businesses then run them like businesses.
What kind of business, when they want to expand, goes to their existing customers and says “We are going to chargeyou more so we can build a new plant to serve more customers and make more money”? If I lease a Chevy Malibu and during the terms of the lease Chevy decides they need to create an improved Malibu do they come back and raise my lease rates so they can pay for the new model? Of course not. So can someone explain to me why Bargersville needs to charge me more so they can build a new water plant to serve new customers? If they don’t want to serve customers outside of their city limits I am sure there are other companies more than willing to step in and do so.
