County Commissioner John Price announced his candidacy for state representative last night. The announcement was made in front of about 100 supporters at the Dye’s Walk club house in White River Township. Price is running for the open seat created when current district 47 Representative Ralph Foley was redistricted out of his current seat. His residence is outside the new district lines. The new district represents two townships in Morgan County, a significant portion of White River Township and central and southeastern portion of Johnson County.

Price has 30 years of experience serving the county in the sheriff department, highway department, and county council. He is currently serving his first term as commissioner. Price had planned to run for reelection but the opportunity to run for the Indiana House was one he decided not to pass up. Price said he wants to bring his experience in cost reductions, budgeting, and business to the Statehouse.

No other candidate has yet announced for the seat. District 47 is heavily Republican and any strong challenge to Price’s candidacy is likely to come in the May primary if at all.
